As part of the expansion of the existing government-run Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC), a new rehabilitation center for drug addicts will soon rise in Maitum, Puerto, Cagayan de Oro City.

In an article from SunStar, the said new rehab facility is target for completion this month of September. The facility is donated by the City Government for Department of Health (DOH) Northern Mindanao.

The existing rehabilitation center, which houses patients from Zamboanga, Surigao, Davao, Butuan and Lanao areas,  was built for 100 clients but currently caters over 114 patients. In fact the existing rehab facility lacks infrastructures because of the rising number of patients.

Since the war on drugs has started there was an increase of admission, from only an average of 60 to 70 patients in 2015, to 150-190 patients last year.

As a government-owned rehab facility it will only cost P3000 a month compared that of to a private-owned rehab which will cost about P25000-35000 a month.

The City Government and Department of Health (NorthMin) aims to have a word-class rehab facility with complete programs for the patients.
