P50 Million Worth Of Pirated DVDs Confiscated At The Cogon Public Market

Mga higala! Over 200 sacks of pirated DVDs and CDs worth P50 million were confiscated at the Cogon Public Market last Friday, June 1, 2018.

The pirated items were seized in a raid conducted by the Optical Media Board in pursuant to Republic Act 9239 or the OMB law, which ensures the promotion and protection of intellectual property rights in the country.

According to OMB-Manila’s Legal Division Chief, Atty. Cyrus Paul Valenzuela, the sacks of pirated DVDs were confiscated from 4 different stalls in this anti-piracy operation in Cagayan de Oro City. And prior to the mentioned raid, OMB together with the authorities, also inspected the markets of Agora, Carmen, and the various stores in the Divisoria Area.

Furthermore, 376 sacks of pirated CDs and DVDs worth around P77 million were also seized during the operations last year.
