06 Jun P52 M cash, P27 M worth of checks found in an abandoned house in Marawi City
In an article from CNN Philippines, during a clearing operation yesterday, in a house situated near Mapandi bridge, the authorities discovered P52 million cash and checks amounting to P27 million.
It was disclosed that the house was a machine gun nest of Maute Group and was abandoned after military troops attacked the area.
The money and checks were then turned over to the Joint Task Force Marawi for safekeeping.
Authorities said the abandoned house could be owned by a resident in Marawi who have fled the area. They are now looking if the checks and money are connected to terrorist transactions.
Duterte once said in a report that the Maute Group is funded by foreign terrorist groups and illegal drug money.
