August 2, 2018. Mga higala! A labor group in Northern Mindanao is going file a request today, which aims for a 320-peso increase that will result in a P658.00 minimum wage for private sector workers in Region X.

Based on a report by Sunstar CDO, the group is named Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP), and their petition is said to be in accordance with the parallel House Bill 7805, filed by TUCP partylist representative Raymond Mendoza, who stated that:

“We call on President (Rodrigo) Duterte to lead from the front in the fight against poverty. We remind the President that the question of wage policy is first and foremost in the minds of people now. Added to this is the question of addressing the problem of inflation and the quest of all for decent jobs.”

Moreover, the ALU-TUCP labor group believes that this increase needs to be implemented since the current P338 minimum daily wage is no longer enough due to the rising prices of even the most basic needs such as rice, food products, water, fuel, and more.
