16 Jun Panelo, Spokesperson No More – He is Now Assigned as Duterte’s Chief Legal Counsel
On Wednesday evening, June 15, during the cabinet meeting of president-elect Rodrigo Duterte and his appointees at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), he announced that Salvador Panelo will be assigned as the chief presidential legal counsel.
Mid-May, Panelo was temporarily assigned as Duterte’s spokesperson. Incoming Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said that this was the plan from the start.
Ernie Abella will be Panelo’s replacement as the next presidential spokesperson.
Panelo is often criticized, mostly by journalists, for his lawyering acts for the Ampatuan family members involved in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre, the single deadliest incident involving journalists.
