12 Oct Panguil Bay Bridge, Mindanao’s Biggest and Longest Bridge to Start Construction Next Year
By the third quarter of next year, 2017, the construction of Mindanao’s longest and largest bridge project which spans Panguil Bay that will connect Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, and Tubod City, Lanao del Norte will start and is expected to be completed by 2020.
“We expect the start of the bridge construction by the third quarter of 2017, but this is just a proposed implementation schedule, so this can still change due to several technicalities that are being ironed out so we cannot yet determine the exact month,” said DPWH Region 10 acting spokesperson Vina Maghinay.
The said Panguil Bay Bridge project is envisioned to reduce travel time between Tangub and Tubod to only 7 minutes, thus, improving travel time from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to cities of Tangub, Ozamiz, Oroquieta, Dipolog and Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte.
The project agreement has already been signed with South Korean Bank and the Philippine Government.
“Detailed engineering design and construction of civil works will start in July 2017. And if the implementation schedule would be followed properly, the entire bridge construction will be finished by June 2020,” Maghinay added.
Works on the access road towards the bridge on the side of Tangub City in Misamis Occidental has already started, however, it was suspended because of issues involving the right of way from the community as indicated by the DPWH.
