Parents neglecting their responsibility to their children will now be facing criminal liabilities as City Ordinance 13195-2017 otherwise known as the Parental Responsibility Code of Cagayan de Oro Bill has been passed.

The newly passed ordinance was drafted by Oro Youth Development Council Chairperson Atty. Ernesto Neri who emphasized that parents will be punished when they abandoned their children, use them to do crimes, and do not send them to school, among others.

Neri said that parents should take the initiative to join the Parental Service Sessions held in their respective barangays to know more about the ordinance.

On the other hand, City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Officer Trejan Noli said that their office was tasked to do the recording of crimes done by parents to their children.

With that, CSWD will be using a system that can locate the parents who will violate the city ordinance.
