11 May PCOO, PIA hold ASEAN Multi-sectoral Forum in CDEO
Coinciding with the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) in collaboration with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Northern Mindanao held the ASEAN Multi-sectoral Forum at Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.
The event featured discussions on the different areas concerning the Philippines’s participation in the ASEAN and the advancements it will get from the agreements and projects stated therein.
One of the key speakers was the Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 10, Engr. Leon Dacanay Jr., who spoke about AmBisyon Natin 2040 and how Filipinos gauge themselves towards the realization of their aspirations within 25 years. Starting in 2015, AmBisyon 2040 describes the ideal living of Filipinos and the kind of country they want to live in.
Dacanay also talked about the different areas that the government is targeting towards the realization of AmBisyon 2040 like the improvement and harnessing of the country’s aquatic resources. He also shared the different plans of the administration for Region 10 in “… pursuing the region to be the gateway to Mindanao…” , in relation to ASEAN and AmBisyon 2040 and its strategic location for the advancements that will be coming in Mindanao.
The next presenter was Ms. Belina SB. Capul who talked about the history of ASEAN and the importance that it bears for all of the ASEAN countries especially of the Philippines. She also shared the achievements of ASEAN in terms Political, Economic, and Socio-cultural Cooperation and the bolstering the three ASEAN pillars; ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC); ASEAN Economic Community (AEC); and ASEAN Socio-cultural Community (ASCC).
Director Linda Boniao of the Department of Trade and Industry Region 10 was the last presenter who presented the trade and investment opportunities in ASEAN. She said that the active participation of the community at all levels will “..translate to an immense business opportunity that must be exploited to full advantage..”.
The event was participated by heads and representatives of offices of different government agencies, businesses, religious sectors, academe, youth organizations, women’s groups, senior citizens, among others.
