28 Jul PDEA declares 5 more CdeO barangays drug-free
5 more barangays have been declared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)- Region 10 as drug-free areas in Cagayan de Oro City.
In an article from Interaksyon.com, CdeO Barangays 5, 6, 8, 26, and 37 were the addition to PDEA’s existing list of “drug-cleared” barangays in the city.
PDEA agent Ben Calibre said that there are already a total of 81 barangays throughout the region that the agency have so far publicized to be cleared out of drugs. These include 43 barangays in Misamis Occidental, 8 in Bukidnon, 12 in Camiguin, and 18 in Misamis Oriental with the exception of the province of Lanao del Norte that is still awaiting confirmation from the agency.
Calibre said there are certain requirements that the barangays have to conform to before they could be proclaimed as drug-free areas. These are the “non-availability of drug supply, non-existence of drug users or dependents, absence of protectors and financiers, actively involved village officials in anti-drug activities, existence of drug awareness, preventive education, information and related programs, and existence of treatment and rehabilitation in the barangay” among others.
He added that while this arrangement may be achieved by a particular barangay, such declaration will be revoked once evidences are found that the barangay is once again affected by illegal drug activities and will have to undergo another batch of reassessment after three months.
