19 Dec PH bet finishes in top 5 of Miss World 2016: Puerto Rico bags the crown
Philippines’ bet Catriona Gray finished in the top 5 of the Miss World 2016 beauty competition held at the Theatre at MGM National Harbor in Maryland, USA.
Miss Puerto Rico’s Stephani Del Valle was crowned Miss World 2016 along with Miss Dominican Republic in 1st Runner Up and Miss Indonesia on 2nd runner Up.
Catriona also won one of the competition’s top awards – the multimedia award which honors the candidate who has the most influential social media accounts.
Miss Philippines was one of the top bets to win this year’s Miss World 2016, however, her being in top 5 is an achievement nonetheless.
During the question and answer portion, Lalaguna asked Gray about which qualities does she think should the next Miss World possess.
For her answer, Gray responded: “I think first of all it takes bravery. To be a Miss World is to carry a burning torch. It is like action carried out by one to illuminate the lives of many. I would dedicate my whole self, my love for the arts and my voice to trying to uplift, empower and educate people. It would be my greatest honor and duty to hold this torch high enough so that all the world could feel and see its light.”
Megan Young, who is the only Miss World title that hails from the Philippines, was present during the event as the host.
