31 Mar PH celebrates 497th Anniversary of the First Catholic Mass
In an article from Manila Bulletin, today, March 31, local Church marks the 497th anniversary of the First Christian Mass and the introduction of Christianity in the Philippines.
The commemorative rites and the venue of the Sinugdan (which means “beginning”) Festival will be held in Southern Leyte. The occasion will be highlighted with a series of events, such as the re-enactment of the first mass, street pageants, and “bancaton” or boat race.
It can be recalled that the first Holy Mass in the Philippines was celebrated on the Easter Sunday of March 31, 1521, in Limasawa Island and was officiated by a Spanish friar, Pedro de Valderrama.
