08 Feb PH Gov’t Declares All Out War Against NPA
Defense Secretary said on Tuesday the government is waging an all-out war against the New People’s Army.
Delfin Lorenzana stated, “Yes, it is an all-out war because they are already considered by the President as terrorist[s].”
According to a report from CNN Philippines, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), along with its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA) and the National Democratic Front (NDF), were now considered as a terrorist group by President Rodrigo Duterte.
The military will only pursue the members of NPA and that the communist rebels’ “peace-loving supporters” will remain safe, said Lorenzana.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesman Col. Edgardo Arevalo clarified during a press briefing that an “all-out-war” means the government will utilize all available assets of the AFP to fulfill its mission.
He added that their intention is to defeat the enemy, to defeat the New People’s Army (NPA).
The military will intensify their operation but the AFP assures that the civilians will be safe and secured. Arevalo also added that they will ensure there will be no collateral damage at the most that they could avoid it.
