In an article from CNN Philippines, the bill that will extend the validity of driver’s license from 3 years to 5 years, if signed by the president will soon officially become a law.

The 5 year validity of driver’s license is entitled for both professional and no-professional license holders.

It was also disclosed that another five years will be granted automatically to the drivers who had not incurred any violation in the 5-year duration of their driver’s license.

There are reason why the Congress granted the five years measure:

(1) to incentivize the drivers

(2) cut red tape

(3) make it easier to apply for a license

In return, the motorists are encouraged to follow the law and be qualified in order to get the full advantage of the law.

It was agreed that penalties will be imposed to the violators.

Violators are not allowed to apply for license for two (2) years.

A fine of P20, 000 for violators of willful misrepresentation, connivance with officers, falsification of documents, cheating during examinations for application of driver’s license.

In case the license holder is involved with death or physical injuries resulting in the loss of any part of the victim’s body, insanity or incapacity to work their license will be revoked for four (4) years.

Hence, an online processing for the renewal of nonprofessional and professional licenses is expected to be available one year from the effectivity of the law.

Meanwhile, initial application should be done and applied in person at any LTO offices nationwide.
