24 May PH has the slowest internet speed in Asia-Pacific
Averaging about 5.6mbps, the Philippines has the slowest internet connection speed among Asia-Pacific countries and even in the world. That’s according to the latest study done by Akamai, an internet monitoring firm, which conducts quarterly reports on internet connections speed, broadband statistics, and more.
In Akamai’s quarterly State of the Internet Report, South Korea has the fastest internet speed of 26.1 Mbps. That’s 22 mbps higher than PH’s internet speed. Below are the top 10 countries in the world with high internet connection speed:
South Korea –26.1 Mbps
Norway – 23.6 Mbps
Sweden – 22.8 Mbps
Hong Kong – 21.9 Mbps
Switzerland – 21.2 Mbps
Denmark –20.7 Mbps
Finland – 20.6 Mbps
Singapore – 20.2 Mbps
Japan 19.6 – Mbps
Netherlands –17.6 Mbps
The United States is not even in the top 10 with about 15.3 Mbps which put them in 16th place. However, the report positively stated that the Philippines may improve internet connection speed in the future as government’s efforts are underway.
In a CNN report, President Rodrigo Duterte approved plans in putting up a national broadband last March which will be used to run online government services. The government is also looking for fiber optics installation across the country that will connect rural far-flung areas as well.
