For the next year, 2017, the Philippines is being considered to host the Miss Universe, as confirmed by the officials of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

“Sinasabi nila that it has been long overdue for the Miss Universe na ganapin dito sa Philippines,” she said. “Nagkaroon ng kaunting talks and hopefully, if all goes well, if all becomes approved soon, dito natin gagawin ang Miss Universe [on] January 29,” said Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro adding that hosting the pageant will open doors and bring many opportunities to the country such as more jobs and increased revenue, and at the same time, the country will have a good image. In a similar report where DOT Secretary Wanda Teo confirmed that she met with Miss Universe president Paula Shugart as well as other executives of the organization.

More than 90 countries are expected to participate and send their candidates for the competition.

“We know that the Miss Universe is one of the prestigious pageants that we have right now in the entire world. Kumbaga kapag kaya natin gawin natin dito sa (In other words, if we can hold it here in the) Philippines, it would show a very good image of the country para sa ibang mga bayan na yung mga ganyang prestihiyosong pageant ay kaya na natin gawin (to the international community that we can hold such a prestigious pageant),” de Castro said.

If Philippines is to officially host Miss Universe 2017, it will be the third time that our country will host the prestigious pageant. It was in 1974 when the Philippines first hosted the said pageant, then in 1994.
