19 Dec Phivolcs to Install Intensity Meters in CDO
Intensity meters will be soon installed within the City Hall premises once Cagayan de Oro City Mayor signs the memorandum of agreement (MOA).
According to a report from Sun.Star, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) will install intensity meters for gathering information on earthquakes around the city.
The intensity meters are to be installed in key areas of the country to record and be available online or in real time to give information on the intensity of ground shaking caused by several earthquakes, Phivolcs indicated.
The MOA was already approved by the City Council and that it only needs the signature of Mayor Oscar Moreno.
The city government shall allow the installation of intensity meters within the premises, electrical consumption and internet connection, free of all charge as stated in the MOA. They would also ensure the security and safety of the machine and will not transport the equipment to other location unless approved by both parties.
Phivolcs, on the other hand, will guarantee that the information of an earthquake intensity will be easily available on the web and can be accessed by the city.

I: Scarcely Perceptible
II: Slightly Felt
III: Weak
IV: Moderately Strong
V: Strong
