02 May PNoy Arrived at the INC Central Office This Morning Exactly One Week Before the May 9 elections
At around 9:00AM this day, May 2, the convoy of President Benigno Aquino III arrived at the Iglesia ni Cristo central office located at Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. And about an hour later, the convoy left.
“Nagpapasalamat muna ako dahil talaga namang nadama natin ang suporta throughout the administration and even before I have been in office,” Aquino told ABS-CBN News in an interview after his visit to the sect. Aquino added that he also shared with INC executive Eduardo Manalo his vision for the country after he steps down from office this coming June 30.
All of the five presidential candidates, namely Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor Santiago, Vice-President Jejomar Binay, ex-DILG chief Mar Roxas and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, have already met with Manalo to seek the church’s endorsement since INC practices bloc voting during elections. And citing the 2013 data, a Pulse Asia report said that the INC support could already translate to around 1.5 to 1.8 million votes on the election proper.
Previously, the Iglesia endorsed candidacies of President Aquino as well as his two predecessors President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and President Joseph Estrada, in which all of them won.
