108 Police Officers Reassigned to Mindanao For Involvement in Illegal Drug Activities

About 100 Metro Manila policemen were deployed to several areas in Mindanao serves as a punishment for their involvement in several offenses particularly illegal drug activities.

But there will be 60 more police officers who will be assigned to several areas of Metro Manila were either under surveillance or accused of illegal behavior, said the director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Chief Superintendent Oscar Albayalde.

Albayalde stated, “We are monitoring some 67 of our personnel who are continuously engaged in illegal drugs activities.”

One of these police officers was accused of extorting P300,000 from the relatives of a suspected drug user which was apprehended during a police operation, this is according to Albayalde.

It was said that the erring policeman is associated with eight other police officers.

A total of 108 police officers from Metro Manila were already reassigned to some conflict-torn areas in Mindanao, Director General Ronald dela Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

He disclosed that recently, a police officer was killed during an ambush in Maguindanao and was said to be one of those erring cops.

Some police officials who were deployed to Mindanao went on Absence Without Official Leave (AWOL) and Dela Rosa said that they are now investigating reports about it.

It was said that 14 of the Metro Manila police officials went on AWOL.

As the Metro Manila and Luzon police forces are being reassigned to Mindanao, police officers in Mindanao and Visayas who were also suspected to be involved in the illegal drug trade are being deployed to Luzon.
