27 Jun Pope Francis Assigned a Pinoy Bishop in Saipan
On Saturday, June 25, the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) reported that Fr. Ryan Jimenez will become the new bishop of the Chalan Kanoa diocese in Saipan, the largest island of the Northern Mariana Islands, home of 43,000 Catholic faithful.
He will succeed Bishop Emeritus Tomas Camacho who retired on 2010.
The 44-year old Jimenez came from Siquijor province and has garnered a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-Divinity from the Ateneo de Manila University.
He continued his studies at the St. Patrick Seminary and University in California, where he earned his Masters Degree in Theology in 2003. In the same year, Jimenez was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa.
In his 12 years of experience being a priest, he had also managed several pastoral positions, including parish vicar, special secretary to the bishop, rector of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral, president of the diocesan commission for the cultural heritage of the Church, and diocesan chancellor.
Jimenez’s episcopal ordination is set on August 14 at the Chalan Kanoa Cathedral.
