01 Aug President Duterte considers abolishing Commission on Human Rights
President Duterte has been considering to abolish the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) after the agency’s alleged intervention of the government’s armed defenses to pacify the conflicts and defeat the forces of terrorism in the Mindanao.
In an article from Sunstar.com.ph, the President insisted that the military was only doing their duties in implementing the Martial Law and has denied accusations of human rights violation in any of their operations.
He added that in order for the government to maintain peace and order in communities, civilians must adhere to security measures without showing evident resistance. As such, civilians are bound to follow when ordered to get out of their houses and stopping them from entering particular establishments.
CHR, despite the fact that no recorded incidences of human rights violation were committed during the course of the Martial Law in Mindanao, maintained that it will continue to monitor the provisions of the military rule including the warrantless arrest which can be carried out anytime by authorities.
The President said that CHR should directly bring up any matter to him concerning the military and police as the two armed entities are under his office.
