Mga higala! President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered all police officers to stop drinking in public places, citing that officers under the influence of alcohol are usually involved in or cause trouble.

Kayong mga pulis, I’m warning you, do not drink in public. Sa Davao pinagbawalan ko ‘yan, pati kayo na ngayon, all over the Philippines. You do not enter into drinking places,” Duterte said on Tuesday, January 8, in a speech during a summit, held in Pasay City.

In regard to this, Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año has ordered the PNP to issue an administrative circular that will prohibit cops from drinking in public. He stressed that a police officer’s job requires gaining and maintaining the respect and trust of the citizens.

Año also added that those who will be caught violating this order may face administrative charges such as dereliction of duty, insubordination and gross neglect of duty.
