08 Aug President Duterte Signs First-ever National ID System

Mga higala! Last Monday, July 6, President Rodrigo Duterte finally signed Republic Act No. 11055 or the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Act that will implement and issue a National ID to all Filipinos and registered aliens in our country.

As you can see from the photo above, this National ID will contain a person’s full name, birth date, address, gender, blood type, and citizenship. To register it will also require an updated picture, fingerprints, and an Iris Scan.
Moreover, other than the benefit of finally having an official identification for all Filipinos, according to Senator Sonny Angara this will also:
“The national ID system will cut down the bureaucratic red tape that has been hampering the efficient and effective delivery of government services.
This national ID system, when rolled out across the country, will empower many Filipinos who are unable to bank because they do not have the appropriate identification cards, to access the formal financial system and open bank accounts.”
