09 Nov RCWC Leads Off Celebration of 24th National Children’s Month at Kiosko Kagawasan, CDO
Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) led the 24th National Children’s Month celebration last November 7 in Cagayan De Oro, through medical mission and turning over 51,000 pencils to the Department of Education as part of the CWC’s One Million Lapis Project.
The event was highlighted by an opening motorcade which was held at Kiosko Kagawasan. With the theme “Isulong: Kalidad na Edukasyon Para Sa Bata” the said project was aimed to promote children’s right to quality education, mostly among those who are out of school.
According to Teddy Sabuga-a, a City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Officer, the children’s health is important in order for them to be focused on their studies. He then urged mothers to give their children the best nutrition, primarily in the first two growing years of their children, emphasizing on the fact that it would result to vulnerable growth when the child is not nurtured during the mentioned period of time, adding that mothers should breastfeed their infants from 0-2 years since it is an irreversible stage.
Meanwhile, Aldersey M. Dela Cruz, Department of Social Welfare and Development-10 (DSWD) Assistant Regional Director for Operations, said that home is where education starts with the aid of the family, then just being continued in schools, concluding that homes should be the venue where the value of education must be cultivated. This would then bring out their potential and talent envisioned to aid in their emotional, physical, psychological, and social development in the future.
The month of November, as stressed in the Republic Act 10661, is the National Children’s Month. The month of commemorating the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Children by the United Nations General Assembly.
