Region 10 Areas Still Under Signal No. 1: TS “Auring” To Landfall Within 24 Hours

Auring

Mga higala! Tropical Storm Auring is now forecasted to continue moving generally west-northwestward to northwestward in the next 48 hours. It is expected to initially make landfall over the Dinagat Islands-Eastern Samar-Leyte area between tonight, Feb. 21, 2021, or early tomorrow morning, Feb. 22!

However, according to PAGASA, there is an increasing likelihood that “Auring” will weaken into a “tropical depression” before it makes landfall because of persistent high vertical wind shear associated with the surge of the Northeast Monsoon.

After landfall, the storm will then possibly weaken considerably due to significant terrain interaction and the increasing wind shear, leading to deterioration into a remnant low within 48 hours (or sooner).

BTW, Signal No. 1 (with 30-60 km/h winds) is still up in the following areas in Mindanao:

  • Surigao del Sur
  • Agusan del Norte
  • Agusan del Sur
  • Davao Oriental
  • Davao de Oro
  • Davao del Norte
  • Davao City
  • Camiguin
  • Misamis Oriental
  • Bukidnon

Here is the expected course of the said storm:
