Valentine’s Day is almost upon us so whether you’re planning a romantic dinner for that one and only “someone” in your life or bringing the family to a quiet dinner, check out these places we have selected for you. Of course, the city is now dotted with many restaurants that cater to every taste and ambience, but these ones below may also offer their own Valentine’s dinner offerings so do inquire first before going there.
Modan Japanese Wagyu House and Modern Bistro
There’s just something romantic about Japanese restaurants. But don’t just bring your loved one or family to just any Japanese restaurant.
Bring them to Modan Wagyu House because they’re the only one in the city that serves authentic Japanese Wagyu beef. This is Cagayan de Oro City’s newest restaurant located along Corrales Avenue in front of Hotel Xentro.
You could say it is a Japanese specialty restaurant that specializes in authentic Wagyu Beef dishes while also serving other Japanese foods. A portable stove on the table allows you to cook your own meals or you can still opt to just order.
While people often love to come here in groups because it’s fun cooking your own meals, the place isn’t too crowded for two people to have a romantic dinner. This Japanese restaurant is considered truly genuine in serving real Japanese cuisine.
The Hungry Plate
This is another new restaurant that just opened last year along Corrales Avenue. It serves really deliciously crafted American and fusion dishes, as well as craft beer.

Just gawking at the menu will show you an array of delicious food that is truly American, and very affordable. Again, while it’s a great place for groups or for the family, it’s not overly crowded for a romantic dinner.

On the second floor is the Tap Room that serves specially crafted beer. This is local craft beer made only in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Cebu, and other places, so after the romantic dinner you can mosey on upstairs for some liquor.
Cucina Higala
This is the newest heritage cuisine and modern Filipino restaurant to open in Cagayan de Oro City that offers its own twist in specializing in dishes from Northern Mindanao. It is located on Capistrano and Mabini Streets (the former Thai Me Up).

The restaurant so far is serving 25 dishes. These will all be local heritage cuisine from around the region such as the Surol from Camiguin, Beef Rendang from Lanao del Norte, and Cagayan de Oro’s Sinuglaw and Humba.

The specialty and bestseller of the house remains the Kare-Kare and Callos. Its top beverage is called the Magic Potion, a drink made from the Blue Ternate flower extract which is known for its health benefits. The place isn’t that humongous but it isn’t crowded as well so a romantic dinner amid its cool décor will be a great experience.
Kave Restaurant – Limketkai Luxe Hotel
Naturally, Cagayan de Oro’s only five-star hotel has its own Kave Restaurant (pronounced ka-ve). They have become pronouncedly popular with their themed dinner or buffets that are just perfect for romantic dinners. The restaurant’s ambiance itself sets a tone for a romantic encounter complete with dimmed down lights.

Based on mostly positive reviews the selection and taste of the foods has become comparable to international hotels, or at least the ones in Manila and Cebu.

Its desserts are also becoming a favorite. For a romantic getaway within the city, the restaurant’s quiet ambiance is just perfect, with some soothing jazz music every night from its performers.

Misto Restaurant and Bar – Seda Centrio Hotel
Misto Restaurant and Bar is on the 4th floor of the Seda Centrio Hotel. You almost immediately see it when you enter the entrance lobby of the hotel. It has this cool and quiet ambience you won’t find in the middle of the noisy city.
It has now introduced its new happy hour that they call, “Why Limit Happy to an Hour?” During this happy hour at the Misto, all local beers are at P80 (net) per bottle while all other alcoholic beverages are at 30% discount per glass. There are also discounts for their wide selection of red and white wines by the bottle. Of course, the happy hour isn’t just about beers since Misto sells a wide array of alcoholic cocktail variants for everyone’s taste.
For those not into alcoholic drinks, Misto makes available its “virgin mocktails” selection. It’s the drinks available on the menu with the same mixture minus the alcohol content. For the romantic dinner or dinner with the family, the restaurant offers affordable menu lineups, or has regular themed buffets almost every day.
The ambiance of Misto is surprisingly quiet, cozy, and romantic in spite of being just meters away from its sister mall and from busy Corrales Avenue.
Hugo Skye Lounge
This is the city’s most recent hilltop venue where you can chill while enjoying the sunset and romantic overview of the city at night. It’s located in Indahag.

It has a restaurant and bar, though most of the area is open so you can eat dinner under the stars.

It has a generally peaceful and romantic atmosphere, and even the acoustic band that plays at night seems to complement the peace and ambiance rather than disturbing it.
For now, however, only those with vehicles can reach the place, but the trip is worth it for a family or romantic dinner.
Zordz Restobar
This Restobar is a night spot located at the Convention Center crossroads along the Taguanao Road. As a Restobar away from the city’s busy hustle and bustle scenes, Zordz is a good venue for a romantic night out with the family or a loved one.

It has a restaurant, live acoustic band from Wednesdays to Sundays, KTV rooms, a coffee shop, function rooms, catering services, billiards, and darts. It has almost everything for almost every food, drink, and night life taste.

The place is designed around a nature-based theme since the place is surrounded by hills, trees, landscaping, and other greenery. In terms of accessibility for those without vehicles, it is encouraged to use Grab Taxi since they are easily called on to bring anyone to and from Zordz. For those with vehicles it’s easily 15 – 20 minutes from the city center.
