To ensure the full enactment of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) law, family planning advocates are attempting to gather one million signatures to urge the Supreme Court to lift Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO) on some of the law’s provisions.

Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development Foundation Inc. executive director, Romeo Dongeto said that they plan to collect signatures until April 2017 and will be forwarded to the SC and to President Duterte.

He stated during the Population, Health and Environment National Conference on November 8, Tuesday, “The Purple Ribbon for RH Movement had launched a signature campaign to issue a call for our SC justices to lift the TRO on two brands of contraceptive implants which are actually important for women.”

A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) was issued last June 2015 against the Department of Health (DOH) from using the contraceptives in its reproductive health programs. According to Dongeto, if the SC won’t clear out the TRO, about P250 million worth of implants will expire by 2018.

He said, “The RPRH law gave poor families hope that their dream of a better future can be achieved. These hopes can only be realized if the government fully and efficiently implements a comprehensive family planning program as mandated by law.”

Dongeto also added that they will also attempt to submit the signature to the president as they believe that he has the “political will and the power to convince the SC justices” to cancel the TRO.
