08 May RTA to implement new traffic scheme in CDeO
The Cagayan de Oro City Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) will start implementing a new traffic scheme this coming Tuesday, May 9, 2017.
On Monday, May 8, 2017, the agency held a meeting with various businesses around the city to hear their views and concerns as well as to educate them regarding the new scheme.
Many businesses worries about the effects of the new traffic scheme especially to their daily income since it is said to expand no parking zones in areas near the new SM Mall along Osmeña Street. RTA Chief Edgardo Uy said that the agency will no longer allow vehicles coming in and out of the mall to make left turns and to ensure that, they will be putting up barriers in the middle of the highway. Uy added that the only vehicles allowed for entry along the Osmeña stretch are motorelas that are Agora liners.
Aside from the greater stretch of Osmeña, additional areas such as parts of Gaabucayan, Agudo, and Captain Vicente Roa Streets were also declared as no-parking zones according to the new traffic scheme.
Moreover, there will also be no pedestrian lanes allowed in the SM Mall area but loading and unloading are allowed in front of University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and before the Nazareno Church. Also, pedestrians will still be able to pass in the corners of Osmeña and Recto streets.
Public Utility Vehicles (PUJs) need not worry since all five routes passing to and from SM Mall area will remain as is and will not be affected.
A P1,500 fine for vehicles who are caught violating the new rules and regulations set by the new traffic scheme will also be implemented.
