San Miguel Foods To Shut Down Monterey Piggeries In Bukidnon Due To ASF

Mga higala! San Miguel Foods, Inc. has decided to shut down all Monterey-affiliated piggeries in Bukidnon, starting March 1, 2021, due to the effects of African Swine Fever (ASF) amid the COVID-19 pandemic!

According to a post by the Public Affairs office, ASF has greatly impacted areas in Luzon, affecting the demand and more, which in turn has impeded the operation of Monterey piggeries in Bukidnon.

This was discussed during the provincial government’s session last February 2, in the Legislative Building in Malaybalay City.

Concerned individuals and agencies were invited for this session, including the province’s hog raisers, the San Miguel management, the M. Montesclaros Enterprises, DOLE-Bukidnon, the Provincial Agriculturist office, and the Provincial Veterinarian office.

(ICYDK, this shut down will increase prices of pork products in the region and beyond.)

The provincial government is now looking for ways to help business owners and workers in the hog industry affected by this.
