20 Jan Sara Duterte To Push For Mandatory Military Service For All Filipinos
Mga higala! Mayor Sara Duterte of Davao City recently expressed that if she wins in the 2022 elections, she will be pushing for mandatory military service for all Filipinos after they turn 18 years old!
“Gagamitin ko po ang aking opisina sa Office of the Vice President para kausapin ang ating Congress to make military service for all 18 years old, male and female, mandatory in our country.”
(ICYDK, this is similar to South Korea’s military service law.)
When hit with comments regarding this measure by Walden Bello, Sara Duterte then said that this should not be looked at as a way of arming citizens and telling them to kill. Instead, this should be considered as something that will inspire patriotism in our youth.
She also said that this will help address the need for the youth to be prepared for disasters and become proactive community partners in rescue operations and in aiding calamity victims.
Moreover, with military service experience: “The youth should also play active roles in advancing their own welfare — particularly in the aspect of health, education, gender equality, and reproductive issues. I wanted them to be able to stand on their own, help themselves, help the communities, and help the nation,” Sara added.
