In an article posted by ManilaStandard.net, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will be banning the practice of sardine fishing in Macajalar Bay starting this December until February 2018.

According to BFAR Misamis Oriental Director Teodoro Bacolod, the decision was based on a study conducted by Mindanao State University (MSU-Naawan), which states that during this period the sardine fishes or  “tamban” are laying their eggs in the bay.

He added, in order to strengthen the ban, BFAR appealed to the legislative councils in all 15 LGUs that surround the Macajalar Bay to perform the ordinance. Also, the Philippine National Police Maritime Group will help in implementing the ordinance.

Further, during the sardine fishing ban, fishermen can catch different kinds of fishes such as Philippine Anchovy.
