Sunday, January 21, 2018. Fishermen from Purok 12, Barangay Tablon Cagayan de Oro City were surprised after finding 2 heavy pieces of metal in the ocean and thought that they could exchange it for money.

“We then took the metals with us. The price of metal now is very high so we thought of selling it,” said Rudy Gamo, a local fisherman.

But, after careful observation, Gamo and his colleague realized that the objects they found looked like explosives. And reported it to the proper authorities.

Then, yesterday, January 22, the Explosive and Ordnance Division of the COCPO checked the suspected item and confirmed that the two pieces of metals were an unexploded ordnance that could have been used in World War II.

Furthermore, the EOD added that Barangay Tablon was once a docking place for American soldiers during the war. So, it is possible that there are still many unexploded ordnances that can be found under the sea. And residents are advised to report if they discover similar metallic objects.
