28 Sep Finding Those Secret Coffee Spots in Cagayan de Oro
Tired of those commercial coffee shops that brew and mix hot and cold coffee that all taste the same? Well, there are other coffee shops around Cagayan de Oro that brew and mix their own coffee concoctions that you won’t find anywhere else, at least here in the city. So if you want a different coffee mix in your cup or mug, head on down to the following.
Dave’s Beanery
There are actually two Dave’s Beanery coffee shops, one located beside Savemore Supermarket at the corner of Kauswagan Highway and Pelaez Boulevard, and the other is also along Kauswagan Highway beside Jollibee at the entrance of NHA Subdivision.
For coffee their ultimate best-seller is the Black Eye. This is their strongest coffee and they can even lay claim that it’s the strongest coffee served in the city.
In fact, many foreigners and expats from around the city frequent the café just to order this particular brew. The coffee definitely has a “kick” if you want to wake yourself and, unlike strong brews from other commercial cafes, the Black Eye tastes delicious even without sugar and cream, something only real coffee connoisseurs would taste and understand.
They also serve really good cakes, pizza and other foods. Dave’s Beanery is open the whole week from 8:00 a.m. to 12 midnight, although on Sunday they close earlier at 10:00 p.m.
Bean Voyage Coffee Roasters
This nice and cozy CDO coffee shop is travel themed with lots of travel souvenirs, road signs, world clocks, and travel brochures.
It is located at the corner of Pabayo and J. Gaerlan Streets in downtown Divisoria. It’s also the only coffee shop in the city where you can order your coffee with a selfie on it, sort of like a selfie coffee.
It isn’t latte art, mind you. The selfie coffee is between P140 and P180 if you want to try it. They serve other coffee and beverages if you don’t want to see your face on your coffee. They have an awesome list of Antarctic coffee blends and non-coffee blends. They’re open daily from 8:00 a.m. to around 11:00 p.m.
Chardiel Coffee Machine Café
This one is located at Door 111, Great Spot Arcade, along J.R. Borja Extension. Don’t even think that this coffee shop is too far because this stretch of highway is now one of the busiest stretches in the city, and it’s only fair that a good coffee shop should open there.
The café serves a lineup of coffee blends, tea, other blended drinks, cakes, and all-day breakfast meals. For a minimum purchase of P400 you will be given a choice of table board games to borrow. They’re open daily from 8:00 a.m. up to around 12 midnight.
Chocolates and Creams
You’ll find their tagline, “the taste of dreams” on the door and on the wall as soon as you walk into this coffee and pastry café.
Inside, you’ll find an area that’s made for the beach, complete with the inflatable inner tire tubing, a playhouse, and what almost looks like a tree house.
You can order your pastry and coffee and literally sit and just muck around, talk, study, or fiddle with your gadgets. Their pastry bestseller is their Sans Lava, a different sort of sans rival with a creamy chocolate filling inside.
They also serve great coffee blends and non-coffee blends and beverages. You can find this playhouse, or rather, coffee shop, at the corner of Don A. Velez and Gaerlan Streets.
