sim registration

Mga higala! The revised SIM registration bill was recently approved by the Senate on its 3rd and final reading!

It received 20 affirmative votes with no negative votes or abstentions.

ICYDK, the said bill, Senate Bill No. 1310 or the SIM Registration Act, will require users to register their subscriber’s identity module (SIM) cards with their respective telecommunication firms (Smart, Globe, DITO) using their full name, birthdate, address, and valid government IDs.

This will then greatly help identify any phone number and prevent various crimes, especially the current spread of online and text scams.

BTW, spoofing SIM cards to make it seem like it was sent by a different user will be penalized, together with the sale of stolen SIMs.

(The social media regulation part of this bill has been excluded)
