23 Apr Sentro 1850 – Cagayan de Oro’s Prime Asian Fusion Restaurant
Sentro 1850 is one of the oldest restaurants in Cagayan de Oro City, having opened back in 2001. It is one of the first restaurants in the city to offer affordable fine dining as well. It is located at the corner of Don Apolinar Velez and Toribio Chavez Streets.
Like what is normal on weekends, the restaurant can be filled to the brim by 7:00 in the evening, and customers can find themselves up to the fifth on the waiting list.
They serve a mix of Asian, Philippine, and foreign cuisines, focused mostly on their ribs, smoked barbecue, and roast beef lineup. The local lineup boasts of the best lechon kawali, crispy deep fried pork belly, and grilled pork chops in the city. Their cake desserts as well are just purely sinful.
Best-sellers
Their regular clientele swear to their best-sellers such as the Ima’s Kawali, Bric-A-Brac Back Ribs, Tenderloin Steak, Harvest Salad, Philadelphia Steak Sandwich, Swordfish Balinese and Chocolate Mirror Cake.
Special Recognition
Sentro 1850 is one of four recipients from Cagayan de Oro of the Certificate of Excellence given by the International Trip Advisor Philippines. This feather in the cap for Sentro 1850 is also a good indicator for Cagayan de Oro that our restaurants and chefs are getting international recognition for their excellence in the food service.
Ambiance and Atmosphere
The interiors and walls are decorated in more modern designs and this is also evident with their very comfortable furniture. The restaurant seems to have a somewhat homey atmosphere but still retains its classy ambiance. The servers give good customer service and are attentive and courteous to each table when not serving up. Unlike other restaurants that are really dressed to the hilt, Sentro doesn’t boast of any fancy decors or entrance because it’s simply how a restaurant should be, well decorated yet not suffocating, and boasting of the food rather than the decors and ambiance. During lunch time and in the afternoon the crowd isn’t really that thick so it’s a good place to bring a date, away from the crowded malls and deco restos around the city.
Who Owns Sentro 1850?
Sentro 1850 is owned and operated by Chef Eric Yap and Rene Sia. Chef Eric is a product of the culinary arts at a period when the culinary arts wasn’t even in its infancy in Cagayan de Oro and restaurant proprietors who were chefs had to study in Manila or abroad, and were something of a rarity in the city. Chef Eric actually hails from a family lineage that trained their grandmothers, mothers, and aunts in the home grown culinary arts that made the late Gloria Dychauco of Pots n’ Pans Home Bake and Coffee Shop a local celebrity back in the 1980’s.
Operating Hours and Other Offers
They’re open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 12 midnight. They also have function rooms for small parties, events, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and the like. Sentro 1850 is also the sister restaurant of Circa 1850.
