21 Feb Shabu Worth P500k Intercepted at Macabalan Port
Six large sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or commonly known as “shabu” worth more than half a million pesos were seized at Macabalan port, Cagayan de Oro on February 20, Monday night.
According to a report from ABS-CBN News, operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) intercepted and arrested the suspect identified as Erik Habunal.
It was said that the suspect was supposed to be going to Cebu City when he was intercepted as sachets of shabu were found in his baggage upon the inspection.
Habunal did not resist arrest but refused to give a statement regarding the case.
Police believe that Habunal must have a firm client-base in Cebu City and might be involved in a large-scale drug syndicate there.
Drug syndicates may have been operating again following the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) suspension of their campaign against illegal drugs, said PDEA-10 Regional Director Adrian Alvarino.
Meanwhile, Habunal is temporarily imprisoned at the PDEA-10 headquarters and will be facing charges for violation of the R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
