An official from Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said that following the Duterte’s administration’s war against illegal drugs, the price matrix of methamphetamine hydrochloride or commonly known as “shabu” has reportedly increased in Northern Mindanao.

On October 3, Monday, Rosemarie Bajao, PDEA-Northern Mindanao spokesperson said that the street price of shabu has increased rapidly as of today.

Shabu price in Bukidnon was reportedly ranged from P4,000 per gram to P22,000 per bulk, according to Bajao.

While in Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Occidental, shabu price is set to P4,500 per gram to P25,000 per bulk purchase.

And shabu price in Misamis Oriental ranges from P3,500 per gram but differs in bulk cost by P17,000 and P16,000.

In Lanao, the price of shabu ranges from P2,500 per gram and P12,500 per bulk, the lowest price recorded by PDEA.

Bajao stated, “Sauna, makapalit gud ka sa Cagayan de Oro ug P1,500 before, with all out war on drugs karon halos double ang increase.”

The price varies in the market’s consumption and location, Bajao added. As she spoke, “Depende man gud sa consumer ug sa area pud like sa Lanao barato ra kay there are reports nga allegedly naa laboratory didto so barato gyud kay unay man.”

The price matrix is also affected by the supply and demand.

PDEA noticed that the shabu supply is scarce when the price is high.

Bajao stated, “Gamay ra man ang supply taas gayud ang rate kay daghan gapalit pero gamay ra supply and maglisod pa gayud sila og palit kay kabalo man sila sa campaign sa gobyerno.”

PDEA agents and operatives in cooperation with the police and other concerned agencies remain stable in pursuing illegal drug suspects, Bajao added. As she spoke, “Series ang atong operation and perminte atong pag-tie up sa uban agencies like sa Church nga willing makig-partner para sa intensive campaign that’s why naa gitukod nga coalition composed of different sectors.”
