Shellfish Samples From Ozamiz City, Camiguin, & More Positive With “Red Tide Toxin”

Mga higala! Based on laboratory tests conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), samples of shellfishes collected in the following areas and more are confirmed to be positive with RED TIDE TOXIN or Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP)!

  • Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental
  • Taguines Lagoon- Benoni, Mahinog, Camiguin
  • Murceilagos Bay- Sapang Dalaga and Baliangao
  • Lianga Bay- Surigao del Sur
  • (and in other parts or coastal areas in the country)

BFAR is now warning the public that all types of shellfish and Acetes sp. from the said areas are NOT SAFE for human consumption.

However, fish, crab, and squid can be eaten but “all entrails must be removed and washed thoroughly” before cooking.
