08 Mar “In Her Shoes 3” in CDO: Men Walked Wearing Heels to Commemorate International Women’s Day
Approaching the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2016, the National Youth Commission (NYC) Northern Mindanao cluster lead the “In Her Shoes 3” walk on March 7 in Cagayan de Oro participated with men on their heels to support the call to stop violence and harassment against women. Started at 9:30 AM around the surrounding area of Limketkai Mall then proceeded with a program held inside LKK’s event center.
James Benedict of NYC stated that in accordance to this year’s theme of In Her Shoes, males in government departments, agencies or institutions were invited to wear high heeled shoes together with the NYC officials and staff to show support and concern towards the struggles of their female colleagues. He added that the said activity aims to raise awareness regarding women’s value in the community.
The walk was joined by about 200 participants. One of the participants came from the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) Philippine Army who shared his words during the sharing of impressions at the mall’s event center regarding his thoughts towards the hardships of women in heels. In behalf of his group, he took the opportunity to thank the organizers for giving them the chance to participate and show support for the women.
Other representatives like from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and Commission on Population (POPCOM) also shared their say about women still with the same thought, supporting women.
