The opening of SM Cagayan de Oro Downtown Premier on May 12 will also be the unveiling of its new eight-floor BPO Tower that is expected to make approximately 4,000 jobs in the Information Technology (IT) industry.

An article posted on Sunstar.com stated that the city council of Cagayan de Oro declared on Monday, May 8,  SM’s new BPO tower to be an operating economic zone of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

The accreditation of the SM BPO Tower comes with the condition requiring the SM Prime Holdings Inc. and all its IT/BPO locators and lessees to employ 4,000 CDEO residents with the help of Public Employment Services Office (PESO). Councilor George Goking, chairman of the committee on trade and commerce, said that this new venture will make the city worthier of its reputation as an IT/BPO hub in the region and said that it will prioritize more Kagay-anons wanting to be employed in the IT/BPO field.

According to the city’s Information and Technology Council , there are at least 15 BPO companies in CDEO and that makes it to the list of cities included in the next waves for the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) sectors of the country.

The criteria for IT-BPM sectors are talent, infrastructure, cost and business environment which Cagayan de Oro all passed.
