In an article posted by Sunstar.com, solar energy is being considered as the most rapidly growing power sources last year which accounts almost two-thirds of net new capacity on a global scale.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the growth of solar energy was attributed to the boom in photovoltaic panel installations happening specifically in China.

Misamis Oriental, on the other hand, has a solar plant of its own called Kirahon Solar Farm located in the municipality of Villanueva which has the capacity to capture 12.5 MW.

The operations of the said solar plant began in October of 2015 through the collaborative efforts of the Solar Pacific Energy Corporation and Mindanao Energy Systems Inc.

The solar panel will be supplying power for 25 years as a bilateral agreement between Kirahon Solar and the Cagayan de Oro Electric Power and Light Company (CEPALCO).

Further, IEA said that the strength of solar has increased to 50 percent since last year with China contributing almost half of the expansion. The country became the leader of renewable energy production and the US ranks next.
