18 Mar Solar Power Plant in Villanueva Was Launched, Power Supply in CdeO and Parts of MisOr Boosted
On March 17, 2016, a new power plant was launched in the town of Villanueva boosting the power supply delivered in Cagayan de Oro and some parts of Misamis Oriental. It is owned by Kirahon Solar Energy Corp. costing P1.1-billion settled at a 15-hectare property in Kirahon, Barangay San Martin, Villanueva and started generating 10 megawatts of solar power.
The said solar power plant was inaugurated led by former Energy secretary Vicente Perez Jr, Kirahon Solar Energy Corp. chairman, and Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vicente Emano.
According to Perez, the new power plant will generate 10 mw using 40,720 solar energy panels in the 15-hectare solar farm in Kirahon daily enough to meet the energy requirements of 23,500 households under Cepalco franchise area not utilizing 4.5 million liters of bunker fuel annually. The said Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco) franchise area include Jasaan, Villanueva, Tagoloan towns in Misamis Oriental to Cagayan de Oro.
After this project, Kirahon is about to build another power plant soon.
Meanwhile, Emano welcomed the new power plant quoting, “Sa atong programa sa turismo, dako kaayo kini ug tabang, ug nakahatag usab kini sa dakong dungog sa lalawigan sa Misamis Oriental,” and that there should be more solar power plants, and that such power plants are environment friendly.
