Cagayan de Oro City native businessman Duane Fernandez Zambas became one of the Filipinos who is now living their dreams in foreign countries and has become one of the many inspiring stories which the Filipinos could be inspired from.
In an article from Inquirer News Website, the 45-year-old businessman now becomes the very first Filipino to own a franchise of the popular Canadian burger company Big Smoke Burger.
From being a street sweeper at an early age of 12 years old, he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) through a scholarship and has since dreamed of immigrating to Canada while still studying.
Upon arriving in Canada in 2000, Duane already got into the food service industry. While in a foreign country, he did not limit himself working as an ordinary employee and furthered his learnings by enrolling several skills and training courses.
Prior to being the first ever Filipino to own a Big Smoke Burger franchise, he put up a few businesses such as a real estate property rental business, money remittance, and a travel industry council of Ontario (TICO) license to operate as a travel consultant.
His current business franchise is now only awaiting to be opened next year and is expected to be a big hit among patronizers of the burger company.
Reaching this far in his life, Duane owes his success to his family who decided to spend their retirement in CdeO together with his sister.
He also advised fellow Filipino working and settling abroad to widen their knowledge and skills by enrolling in online courses. He believes that education is the “best investment there for our future”.
