Mga higala! A 22-year-old GRADE-10 STUDENT has committed suicide using his shoelaces, on a 20-feet flagpole, at the Tumpagon National High School of Cagayan de Oro City.

According to reports, the incident happened last Monday, March 18, at around 2:30 pm. The student was identified as Carleo Kenney Joy Mangconsay, a resident of Zone 6, Upper Tumpagon.

Magconsay’s cousins thought he was just climbing the said flagpole to fetch their school flag when he suddenly hanged himself.

They then rushed to save him but the flagpole was unstable due to Magconsay’s weight, preventing them to climb and get him down.

No apparent reason has been discovered yet, but SPO2 Allen Tamayo of the Lumbia Police Station revealed in an interview that Magconsay jokingly asked his classmates what their teacher would feel if someone hanged themselves in the flagpole.
