19 Jul Students of University of Mindanao-Tagum College Possibly to Get Expelled for Their Involvement in ROTC Hazing
A video showing some students of University of Mindanao-Tagum College conducting initiation rites of ROTC cadets went viral online. The said students are currently under investigation and may be expelled from the school.
As can be seen in the video, the cadets were repeatedly hit hard on their chest and stomach, with one of the cadets whimpered every after being hit and even collapsed on the floor several times.
“Kung gusto mong maranasan ang naranasan ng senior mo, tanggapin mo ‘yan lahat!” as can be heard from one of the students conducting the hazing.
The University of Mindanao-Tagum College released a statement saying that they are looking into the incident.
“UM Tagum College has already acted to investigate this hazing incident starting Friday, July 15, 2016. The perpetrators have been identified and will be subjected to disciplinary action leading to expulsion.”
the university also added that they do not tolerate any form of hazing by fraternities, school organizations or ROTC inside or outside the school premises.
As stated under Section 2 of Republic Act 8049 or the Anti-Hazing Law, “No hazing or initiation rites in any form or manner by a fraternity, sorority or organization shall be allowed without prior written notice to the school authorities or head of organization seven (7) days before the conduct of such initiation…”
