25 May Suara Bangsamoro and Karapatan oppose the declaration of Martial Law

With President Rodrigo Duterte declaring Martial Law in the whole island of Mindanao for 60 days, diverse reactions from netizens were met. A lot has praised Duterte for his fast action while there are also many who disliked it.
In an article from SunStar, among of groups who were not happy of the president’s decision were the Suara Bangsamoro, a Moro human rights organization and Karapatan, an alliance for the advancement of people’s right.
SUARA BANGSAMORO
National chairperson of Suara Bangsamoro, Jerome Aba, explains that the declaration of the martial law will only exacerbate the ongoing conflict between the government troops and the Maute group in Marawi City. He added that martial law will only lessen the possibility on resolving the issue through diplomatic and non-militaristic means.
Suara Bangsamoro believes that in order to resolve the ongoing crisis, Moro leaders should pursue conversation with the Maute group and come up with resolutions.
KARAPATAN
On the other hand, Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay,thinks that Martial Law is not the answer and it will never result to anything but gross violations of people’s rights.
Karapatan is calling for a deeper investigation on the incident in Marawi as it condemns various acts which has endangered civilians.
