07 Jun Supreme Court assigns CdeO RTC to take over cases against Maute members
The Cagayan de Oro City Regional Trial Court (RTC) was designated by the Supreme Court of the Philippines to take over cases that will be filed against the members of the Maute rebel group in connection to the ongoing armed dispute in Marawi City.
In an article from Rappler.com, the decision was announced yesterday, June 6, by SC spokesperson Ted Te in response to the request of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II who asked the high court to assign future Maute-related cases to Luzon or Visayas courts.
Aguirre made the request with concerns about the safety of the members of the court who will be taking the cases.
The Supreme Court, however, decided to make the RTC in CdeO, a few kilometers away Marawi City, to handle cases associated with members of the Maute group.
In relation to that, SC order the Court Administrator of RTC-CdeO to communicate with the military forces at the Fourth Infantry Division (4th ID) for the protection of the court’s personnel, lawyers, and prosecutors.
