10 May Suspect of Impasug-ong mayor assassination killed by Philippine army
In an article from Sunstar Cagayan de Oro, the Philippine Army found the dead body of the suspected killer to the assassination case of Impasug-ong town mayor Mario Okinlay in 2015 in a combat between the soldiers and the New People’s Army at Sitio Lamana, Barangay Kibalabag, Malaybalay City last May 5, 2017.
Mayor Okinlay’s killer, identified as Jimmy Sante Ama by his relatives in a funeral parlor in Malaybalay, was a member of the NPA and was one of its two members killed in a recent clash involving the Army and the leftist group.
Two years ago, Okinlay and his convoy were traversing the streets of Barangay Bontongo from a medical mission on his way to the municipal hall when they were ambushed. He acquired bullet wounds on his stomach which caused his immediate death.
According to the rebel group, their angst to Okinlay originated to his alleged activities of land robbery in the locality and of being a tyrant to the indigent farmers of Higaonon tribe.
