21 Jun Suspected Maute sympathizers apprehended at Macabalan Pier in CdeO
5 male individuals who are suspected to be sympathizers of the Maute terrorist group were apprehended at Macabalan Pier in Cagayan de Oro City last Monday, June 19.
In an article from ABS-CBN News, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Northern Mindanao district commander Col. Leovigildo Panopio said that the five individuals were acting suspiciously as they were passing through an X-ray machine at the pier which resulted in them being invited for questioning.
They then claimed having gone through various locations in Mindanao to teach Islam and were on their way to Manila. However, when asked about the basic teaching of Islam, they were not able to recite.
It was also revealed upon close examination that they were holding fake IDs yet there were no illegal items found in their possessions.
Panopio added that although the five men were not included in the arrest order Number 1 issued by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, they will still be put under close surveillance and their identities will still be investigated. They will also be charged with falsification of documents as of this writing.
