18 Sep Talakag Farmers Now Set To Ship 40-60 Tons Of Vegetables To Manila Weekly
Mga higala! In cooperation with the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Municipality of Talakag in Bukidnon is now set to ship 40 to 60 tons of high-value vegetables to Metro Manila weekly, starting this month. These vegetables are higher in quality but will be much cheaper than the agricultural products coming from the North.
According to a post by Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, this commitment was made by Talakag farmers when he pledged P20 million in Easy Access Credit which they can use to buy local produce and improve their farms.
This abundant supply from Talakag is expected to drastically bring down the prices of vegetables in the markets of Metro Manila, and help a lot of other Filipinos in Luzon.
Moreover, the DA will provide refrigerated vans which will be used in transporting the vegetables and they will initially shoulder the cost of the transport.
DA Region X Director Carlene Collado will also help by turning over four (4) farm tractors to the Talakag LGU.
