21 Feb 1,574 TESDA Scholarship Slots open for Northern Mindanao
In a report from the Manila Bulletin, a total of 1,574 scholarship slots for the training for work scholarship program (TWSP) has been announced available in Misamis Oriental and Northern Mindanao by the provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) last February 16, 2017, Thursday. The said program was established to fill up the industries and the sectors’ skill gaps and job requirements regarding the high employment demand from the village level.
Survey forms have already been distributed to all of Northern Mindanao villages which is to be filled out by village officials with them to decide what possible vocational courses should the village residents would take if ever be given the chance to be a TESDA scholar.
Among the vocational courses, Housekeeping and Shielded Metal Arch Welding were the appealing ones to the underprivileged which includes persons who are unemployed, suspected prostitutes and formerly engaged in illegal drug activities, and out-of-school youth, and among others residing in the hinterland villages in the region as according to TESDA provincial director in Misamis Oriental, Leo Velez.
P12,691,000 has been allocated in 2016 by the national government for the implementation of TWSP in the region alone.
Applicants who are interested with the programs, walk in at the village level or online applications are accepted with as many as 82 tech-voc courses to choose from accredited ten technical and vocational educational institutions (TVEIs) in the region.
